Reflection, Change, Innovation, Action——The Company held 2019 Annual Work Conference


On Feb. 20th, the Company held 2019 annual work conference, during which the work and accomplishments of 2018 was reviewed and summarized, and current internal/ external situation and the challenges faced were analyzed, the targets and tasks of 2019 were fully deployed. At the meeting, the organization reached consensus on the action plan and key focus. The meeting mobilized all employees to remain sober-minded and work hard for the annual targets and tasks, and lay a good foundation for building a world-class petrochemical company with sustainable competitiveness.

Company management Mr. Gu Yuefeng, Mr. Joost Emmen, Mr. Nouraddin A. Yousuf, Mr. Yang Hongbin, Mr. Lin Xu and Mr. Zhao Tianxing attended the meeting. General managers, deputy general managers, BTMs, group managers and employee representatives from each department attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by vice president Mr. Nouraddin A. Yousuf.

President Mr. Joost Emmen presented the work report titled “Be Determination to Change for World-class”. Mr. Joost Emmen reflected on the safety performance of 2018. He emphasized that we must decide to be determined to be safe and to keep safe, no matter what circumstance is. Together we must enhance our safety culture.

Mr. Joost Emmen summarized the performance of 2018 and analyzed the highlights, problems and gaps of 2018.

Mr. Joost Emmen pointed out higher expectations on safety & environment and stricter external supervision; Volatile global economy and obvious bigger risks & challenges; Changing Chinese market situation and escalated market competition. He emphasized that while facing challenges and difficulties, we must also see positive and favorable factors and strengthen our confidence. In his report, he deployed the objectives and key actions of 2019. He stressed that we must focus on HSSE, reliability, operational optimization and margin, market exploration and sales expansion, efficiency & development and other key focus areas. He also discussed and analyzed the action plans taken to operate with world-class attributes, and be determination to change for world-class.

Vice Presidents Mr. Lin Xu and Mr. Zhao Tianxing presented special reports respectively on Master Plan and safety culture improvement plan.

At the meeting, the 2018 TA team, the diesel export business normalization implementation team, and the National Pollutant Discharge Permit application group were commended as “excellent groups”. 10 employees including Cai Yiliang, He Jiezhao, Chen Changhang, Yi Rongfa, Zhang Yingchun, Zeng Huaping, Xiao Hui, Chen Junjie, Tao Jing and Chen Cong were honored as “Outstanding Individuals”; Six employees, including Huang Fengzhan, Chen Zelong, Mei Zhipeng, Liu Zonglin, Pang Yuan and Fang Quanyu won the “Outstanding Individuals Nominees Award”.

Breakout discussions were conducted to fully understand the contents of the work report, including the accomplishments and gaps of 2018, the situations and challenges of 2019, to reach consensus on the Company's objectives and tasks, focus areas and priorities of 2019, to further enhance the sense of responsibility and urgency to increase profits, and contribute to the annual objectives and tasks.

At the closing of the meeting, Chairman Mr. Gu Yuefeng made a speech. He pointed out that in 2018, the production units were operated for 10 months with ethylene production exceeding 1 million tons. The Company achieved good profits, which was the complishment of all employees working together against the difficulties. At the same time, we must be more aware of the severe situation and challenges we are faced with. As the climate was changing, the situation was more pressing. Time waits for no man. We must keep moving forward, just like the theme of the meeting: reflection, change, innovation and action. We need to make unremitting efforts in the journey to be a world-class petrochemical company with sustainable competitiveness.

Mr. Gu Yuefeng emphasized that: the first one is to learn. The society is developing and climate is changing, we should start with learning to enhance learning abilities, strengthen political theory and professional knowledge learning, apply the knowledge to practice and improve problem solving ability in practice. In the course of learning, we shall take the perspective of scientific development and have a long view on future development of the Company, i.e. be good at observing the general trend and making overall plan, and observe, think and handle problems ahead of the times, and drive the work of the Company forward while controlling the overall strategy.

The second is to reform. The core of enterprise reform is innovation, and successful reform comes from management of reform. As the saying goes that “To reform, you may fail; otherwise, you definitely fail”. We must enhance the ability of reform and innovation, be brave to reform and innovate, never become rigid or stagnate. The management and all employees should maintain the spirit of forging ahead, further emancipate their minds, change their mindset, fully utilize the key move - change, and the primary driving force - innovation, to creatively promote the work with consideration of the Company's actual situation.

The third is to change. The times are developing and the society is advancing. We must fully understand the gaps between enterprise/ individuals and the social/ business climate. We must take initiatives and be good at change. We must change mindset, to make progress against difficulties, to innovate, be brave to be the first, to open new perspectives with new leaps in thinking and understanding. We should focus on key points of the Company tasks and advance overall work of the Company. We must be prepared for danger in times of safety, enhance the sense of foresight, so as to be prepared for the unexpected change, and firmly grasp the initiatives in work.

Mr. Gu Yuefeng emphasized that every employee of the Company should have good ethics and be dedicated, further emancipate their minds and change their mindset, and implement the vision and mission of being a world-class petrochemical company with sustainable competitiveness in their daily work, focus on key points, strengthen the weaknesses and solve vulnerabilities, and contributes to the development of the Company and the construction of local economy.
