November 9^th is the National Fire Protection Publicity Day. In order to publitize the knowledge of fire prevention, strengthen employees’ awareness of fire prevention and improve their firefighting skills, in the morning of November 9^th, the Company held the 2017 fire prevention and gas protection skills competition at the training ground of the new fire building.

Vice President Mr. Joost Emmen and Operation General Manager Mr. Zhao Tianxing visited the site to watch the competition and delivered their speeches. The competition was organized jointly by the Labor Union and HSE Department. And nearly 100 employees from 15 teams participated in the competition. Mr. Xie Yi, the director of Party and Union Department presided over the award ceremony.

Mr. Joost Emmen thanked the participants of each team for their impressive passion and spirits of solidarity shown in the competition. He said, although I don’t want to have any emergency to handle, subject to the high temperature/ pressure, inflammable and explosive hazards in petrochemical industry, fire prevention is critical for healthy and stable development of the enterprise, as well as an important part for protecting our life and property. Therefore, we shall constantly improve employees’ skills in fire prevention and gas protection.

Mr. Joost Emmen pointed out that in the past ten years, the Company had made considerable progress and achieved fruitful results, with improving safety performance and decreasing emergency incidents, the efforts made by the whole organization were well recognized. Today, seeing actively participation of the competition, he was very pleased to have many employees who knew well and master the skills of fire prevention and gas protection. He thanked their hard work and hoped that all employees would keep learning the emergency response skills, and strengthen FREP safe production foundation, thus to ensure safe and stable production.

Mr. Zhao Tianxing recognized the active participation of each department/ business team/ group. He said that petrochemical enterprise was subject to flammable and explosive hazards, it is in line with the actual production and operation of the Company to hold this kind of competition. Through the competition, the employees' emergency response skills could be trained, their safety and emergency awareness could be enhanced, their teamwork ability could also be improved. He hoped the employees to keep working hard and contribute to the continuous innovation and profit of the Company.

Mr. Zhao Tianxing solemnly declared that the 2017 FREP 119 Fire Prevention and Gas Protection Skills Competition kicked off.

The competition was featured by “the experienced lead the new ones”, namely, each team must be led by experienced employees with new employees, thus to enable the new ones to master the skills. The competition started on November 8^th with events such as 35kg dry powder cart fire extinguishing, 50-meter water jetting, comprehensive skill in fire extinguishing, valve closing, gas protection and people rescue. The competition combined the pleasure with actual production, which was close to the emergency response and rescue needs at petrochemical sites.

After 2 days of intense competition, the top 6 among the 15 teams were selected respectively for single event scores and team scores. Fuels-2 BT of Process Department won the first prize with the highest team scores, followed by Supply & Distribution Department, EOEG, Electrical Maintenance Group as the second prize to the fourth prize, and the Comprehensive Maintenance Group and the Fitter Group won the fifth prize together.

To carry out a successful competition, the fire brigade carefully organized and arranged the competition events combined with the actual production of the Company. They made the dummies and indoor fire hydrant boxes and carefully set up the competition site. Process Department, Mechanical Department, Technical & Planning Department and Supply & Distribution Department closely cooperated with each other to organize the subordinate teams to participate in the competition. All the participating teams attached great importance to the competition and arranged several trainings and exercises at the fire brigade before the competition to enable the employees to fully grasp the skills. 

The competition set an enthusiasm of dedication, attention to fire prevention and gas protection and skills training in the Company, which encouraged the whole organization to pay attention to fire/ gas safety, work on fire prevention and contribute to safety production of the company. (Xuan Wen)
