November 26 to 27, Fujian Provincial Occupational Skills Competition among Laboratory Technicians themed at “Dream of China · Beauty of Labor” was held in Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company Limited. There were 49 contestants in 7 teams from the whole province who competed for 2 days for awards in the occupational skills competition among laboratory technicians.

Huang Xiaopeng, the deputy director of the working committee of the enterprise labor union directly under Fujian Federation of Trade Unions, Yang Hongbin and Hu Hongye, the top management of Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company Limited, and the leaders of Human Resources & Administration Department, Party and Union Office, Technical & Planning Department, etc. attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the competition.

Huang Xiaopeng delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers, Fujian Federation of Trade Unions and Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League: “Laboratory technicians are one type of technical work in petrochemical industry. They are the basic testing method for safe and stable petrochemical production and the ‘eye’ of petrochemical industry. To hold an occupational competition is to build a technical platform for mutual communication and mutual learning between enterprises, so as to enhance the enthusiasm of industry practitioners to learn technology and to improve skills.”

Hu Hongye delivered a speech at the opening ceremony: “We will take this competition as the opportunity to carefully study good experience and good practice of the participating enterprises so as to further strengthen skill training to keep improving our employees’ skill level and strive to create the competition atmosphere of “emulating, learning, catching-up, helping, and surpassing in turns” to provide good environment for the growth of skilled talents.

Yang Hongbin made a concluding speech at the closing ceremony, “Under the good social atmosphere where “craftsman spirit” is being advocated vigorously in China, enterprises shall take the opportunity and the advantage to build platforms for the staff to practice skills, learn skills, and show skills and to extensively carry out activities of technical training, technical competition, and technical exchange, so as to start the upsurge of technical learning and skills competition and to facilitate the improvement of the staff’s occupational skill level and the construction of highly skilled talents.

Laboratory technicians play a key role in chemical industry production and thus are crucial to ensure the safe operation of the plant and guarantee the quality of petrochemical products. The finalists are all outstanding laboratory technicians from all enterprises. In order to be close to the production, stress on practical results, build the high-qualities, and enhance the level, we set up two parts for the competition: theoretical knowledge and skill operation. The part of theoretical knowledge is to examine basic theoretical knowledge of chemical laboratory analysis, while that of skill operation is to test weighing and titration analysis and spectrophotometric analysis.

It was tight but in order in the competition scene. The contestants were operating in accordance with standards and doing calculations carefully. The judges were carefully watching the contestants’ experimental operation and original records and scoring the contestants from the aspects of conformance, accuracy, and proficiency.

Through the fierce competition, Sun Qingquan form FREP won the first prize in individual competition, followed by Chen Rongzhu from Fujian Meizhouwan Chlor-Alkali Industry Company Limited, Feng Zhe from FREP, Guo Lili from Fujian Meizhouwan Chlor-Alkali Industry Company Limited, etc. who ranked the second to the eighth. The top three in team competition are: FREP, Fujian Meizhouwan Chlor-Alkali Industry Company Limited, and Sinochem Quanzhou Petrochemical Company Limited. College of Materials Science and Engineering of Huaqiao University was awarded as the “excellent co-organizer”. Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company Limited won the “Excellent Organization Award”.
