After the site tour on FREP Plant Open Day in the morning of April 15^th, Mr. Wang, a representative of residents in Tianzhu Village of Nanpu County said, “I was afraid of exhaust pollution living around a petrochemical company. And I did not realize a petrochemical company could be so clean and environmentally friendly before my visit today to FREP process units and environmental emergency response facilities, which is to our great relief.”

A group of special visitors were invited to the Plant Open Day – more than 150 representative teachers and students from Quanzhou Normal College and Tianzhu Middle School, residents from surrounding communities and local journalists, for an exploration journey in the field to get a real sense of FREP production safety and environmental protection.

“Despite the advanced petrochemical production technology, safety guarantee concerns us most particularly after the fire in Tenglong Aromatics Company in Gulei, Zhangzhou.” visitor Mr. Chen expressed his worry to us.

“Production safety and development of green, environmental-friendly and low-carbon economy is the top priority for FREP. We require every one of our employees to continuously improve safety and environmental performance of individuals and the Company. HSE comes before economic benefit no matter when and where.” stated by the Company Vice President Parut Chatikavanij.

In order to provide all-round information to the public representatives with the limited time, the Company optimized the itinerary to visit not only the central control room but also field site, including site presentation by environmental professionals as well as panel discussions which were open to whatever questions of interest such as safety, environmental protection, oil product quality upgrading and social reliability etc. The Company’s frank and sincere answers to these questions in a straight forward manner gained the empathy and trust of the public.

The Company Vice President Nouraddin A. Yousuf, Vice President Parut Chatikavanij and Production Operation General Manager Liu Yanchang delivered presentations to the representatives on the history of Company development, undertaking of social responsibility, introduction of clean technology, supply of green products, cyclic utilization of resources and the other subjects. HSE employees conducted communication and discussion with the group in the perspectives of Company production performance and surrounding environmental status etc. in a straight-out and warm atmosphere.

The promotion film of petrochemical industry and FREP was played during the visit to present and popularize the basic knowledge of petrochemical engineering and facilitate a clearer impression on the broad utilization of petrochemical derivatives such as ethylene and aromatics in our daily life.

In high spirits, the public representatives afterwards visited the exhibition hall and central control room, and took a driving tour on site to observe the conditions of safety and environmental protection. The imagined pungent odor did not appear along the way. And rows of DCS operation screens in the new central control room demonstrated stable operation of the process units under control.

At the waste water recycle and treatment plant, cloudy waste waters became crystal clear after rounds of filtration. “The waste water becomes purified water after ultra filtration, reverse osmosis and other treatment, available to be used in units so as to reduce consumption of fresh water.” The presentation by environmental professionals turned out to be true right before eyes of the representatives.

With increasing public attention to environmental protection, how to achieve corporate development in harmony with environment and society has become a problem that must be solved. However, the public engagement is crucial for harmonious and sustainable development. In fact, corporate development and social harmony have been inseparably bound to each other. The best approbation is development of a satisfactory enterprise with proactive engagement by the public, who are welcome to experience and criticize.

The visit aroused the keen interest of representative residents in FREP’s commitment to sustainable development and responsible care. They enriched their knowledge of petrochemical companies, understood that the daily life could not go on without petrochemical industry and expected the company to well manage the plant so as to jointly build a good neighborhood.
