The Company Held Competition on Fire-fighting and Gas Prevention Skills.
November 9th is the National Fire Awareness Day. In order to propagandize fire-fighting knowledge, strengthen the fire-fighting awareness of the employees, and improve the fire-fighting skills of the employees, the company held a contest on special skills for fire-fighting and gas prevention on the training ground of the new fire-fighting building. Gu Yuefeng, Chairman of Board & president of the company, Nouraddin A. Yousuf, vice-president, and Yang Hongbin, Vice Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Secretary of Commission for Discipline Inspection, and Chairman of the Trade Union came to the site to watch the contest, which was participated by almost 100 employees in 16 delegations from various grassroots units and organized by Trade Union, and HSE Department.
President Gu Yuefeng stated in his speech that “Herein please allow me to represent the Safety Operation Committee (SOC) to give our warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the leaders and employees coming from various departments to participate this rehearsal despite your busy work, and I sincerely wish this contest of fire-fighting and gas-prevention skills to be completely successful. Petrochemical enterprise is an industry with high temperature, high pressure and both flammable and explosive, so it is essential to do good work on fire prevention and safe operation to promote a healthy and stable development of the enterprise as well as an important link to guarantee the security of life and property. In addition, it is very important for petrochemical enterprise to formulate a plan on fire fighting and emergency evacuation and organize regular fire drill activities, which is related to whether the enterprise could dispose early fire accident quickly under emergent circumstances to reduce the loss of property and to the safety of employees. The activity of contest on fire-fighting and gas prevention skills held today could further improve the ability of the key operators in fire-fighting and gas prevention so as to become the pioneering fire-fighting volunteer to convoy safe and stable production of the company.”
There were items like rescuing the wounded, fixed-point fire extinguishing, and fire-fighting relay with fire hose, etc. During the process of wounded rescuing, three very powerful contestants from each department put on SCBA (compressed air breathing apparatus) and ran to the wounded where three persons cooperated to quickly move the wounded out of the dangerous area. In the contest of fixed-point fire-fighting, a male contestant and a female contestant from each unit took part in the contest respectively. They rushed to the fire while pushing the dry powder fire extinguisher cart in an cooperative way, then opened the rotary knob, and press the spraying nozzle while pointing to the root of the flame…A puff of white smoke powder gushed out and the flame was distinguished in an instant. During the contest of fire-fighting relay with fire hose, the four contestants in each team both did their respective work and cooperated together to finish the connection from the fire hose to fire hydrant and fire water branch and then tried their best to rush at the end point.
After very fierce competition the team of fitter in the MD Department finally won the laurel, while the teams from Fuels 2 BT of PD Department, the instrument team of the MD, the team of electrical maintenance, and the EO/EG team from the PD won respective prize of being ranked as the second to the fifth one.
The contest of fire-fighting skills is not only an intensified exercises of skills but also of more importance that the rehearsal had improved the employee’s ability of quick response to emergent event. Many employees stated that using the fire-fighting equipment that could be seen everywhere in our daily life indeed needed some proficiency and skill. They could better understand the hardness of the daily exercises done by the fire-fighters after they themselves did these rehearsals and had further improved their awareness on safe production.
