The highest tower of EO/EG unit hoisted in place smoothly


In the morning of Aug.30, the water washing tower of FREP EO/EG unit was smoothly hoisted in place in Quangang Nanpu Petrochemical Industrial Park under bright sunshine and blue sky. This tower is the highest and biggest one among towers installed in Sinopec’s EO/EG units. The following senior managers and government officials from Sinopec, FREP and Quangang District went to the site and watched the whole process:Mr. Zhang Kehua, vice-president of Sinopec Corp; Mr. Wu Wenxin, Deputy director of Project Management Department of Sinopec Corp; Mr. Fan Jixian, general manager of Sinopec No.10th Construction Company; Mr. Lu Dong, Chen Xiaobo, Yang Hongbin, Liu Yangchang, Hu Hongye, leaders of FREP; Mr.Hong Ziqiang, Secretary of Quangang District CPC.   

At 9:17 a.m., a whistle sounded to give an order to the hoisting operation. A 4000-tons crane slowly hoisted the water-washing tower with 106 meters in height, 6.9 meters in diameter and 1800 tons in weight, aided and hoisted by a 400-tons crane at the bottom of the tower. Watched by surrounding people, the huge tower was moved to the target slowly. After a while, two white clouds flew in the sky. A lot of people took photos and said: These auspicious clouds are predicting the operation will be successful. Sure enough at 10:33, the tower was hoisted at place as planned and fixed with 64 huge screws after 1 hour and 16 minutes operation. The successful operation was celebrated with applauses and paper fireworks. The silver-colored tower stands high just like a rocket flying into the sky.

It was known that the water-washing tower with 106 meters in height, 6.9 meters in diameter and 1800 tons in weight is the highest equipment of EO/EG unit. It is not only big but also located at the middle of the unit. Surrounded by the already-built concrete equipment foundation and installed steel-structure pipe racks and equipment framework, a large crane cannot stand in the radius about 70-80 meters. How to hoist it in a narrow space was a problem.  

The large equipment hoisting project department of Sinopec 10th Construction Company performed this operation. It fully used the 4000-tons crane’s long arms and huge hoisting capacity, and upon many-times measurement and calculation developed the hoisting plan to use the 4000-tons crane as the main hoisting crane and the 400-tons crane as the aiding crane at the bottom of the tower. This department also developed carefully a foundation treatment plan for the standing position of the 4000-tons crane, and built a foundation with an area of 5000 m2 and depth of 0.8-1.5, ensuring safety of the crane.

This smooth operation made a good start for the installment stage of EO/EG unit.
