The Company Held Safety Skills Practical Operation Competition


In order to promote the effective implementation of "Production Safety Month" and “Work Safety Circuit” activities in the company, and stimulate the enthusiasm of employees to learn safety knowledge, improve safety skills and enhance innovation awareness, on June 21, the company held a safety skills practical operation competition in Huang Xiaobin Model Worker Safety Innovation Studio.

Company management Joost Emmen, Nouraddin A. Yousuf, Lin Xu and Yang Fei attended the event and watched the competition.

At the launch ceremony, President Joost Emmen thanked the Labor Union and HSE Department for holding the competition. He said that safety was the cornerstone of company development. The competition was a good opportunity to not only better master safety tools, but also test safety skills, strengthen safety awareness and improve the ability to remove potential safety hazards.

He said that “Friendship first, competition second”, and hoped that the contestants would carry forward the spirit of teamwork, compete for performance, style and level, learn from the competition and use what had learned in work, and enjoy the competition.

Vice President Nouraddin A. Yousuf wished the competition a complete success. He said that the competition was not only to test safety skills of the employees, but also a platform for communication and learning. He hoped that contestants could learn from each other, improve together, and benefit from the competition. He also told everyone to pay attention to protecting themselves and avoiding injuries during the process.

Vice President Lin Xu said the skill competition was an important part of the activities of "Production Safety Month" and "Work Safety Circuit". The purpose of the competition was to promote implementation and “landing” of safety culture and improve production safety work of the company to a new level. He hoped that the contestants would perform stably, and compete with full enthusiasm and confidence, fully demonstrate their safety skills and achieve ideal results.

Joost Emmen announced the start of the competition.

The competition consisted of four parts: five-point safety harness wearing, optimal fire extinguisher selection, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, answering questions by code scanning. 45 employees of 15 representative groups from each department and Business Team of the company participated in the competition. The competition sequence was decided by drawing lots.

During the competition, all the contestants were in high spirit and morale. As soon as the order of "start" was given, the contestants competed with each other actively with quick and standardized operations. They tried hard to complete the operations up to high standard as soon as possible and fully demonstrated skills excised in daily training.

They completed "five-point safety harness wearing" in one smooth motion, selected "the best fire extinguisher" accurately, conducted "cardiopulmonary resuscitation" proficiently, and answered questions by "code scanning" fast and correctly. The competition was orderly organized in a good atmosphere, and the employees showed good safety skills and hard working spirit, which won applause from the audience.

After fierce competition, the judgment group gave fair scores. The representative group of Product Quality Center won the first prize of team for its outstanding performance, Aromatics Business Team and Fitter Group won the second prize of team, and Polyolefin Business Team, Utilities Business Team and Olefin Business Team won the third prize of team. Liu Dong from Product Quality Center won the first prize of individual, Liu Shitao (Aromatics) and Yuan Hao (Fitter) won the second prize, and Zhang Sanxin (EOEG), Zheng Cheng (Product Quality Center) and Xu Weining (Aromatics) won the third prize.

At the awarding ceremony, Yang Fei, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Secretary of Discipline Inspection Committee and Chairman of the Labor Union of the company congratulated the winners, encouraged all to work hard and study continuously, further improve safety skills, and influence their colleagues to participate, so as to create a good safety culture atmosphere.

He commented that the Model Worker Innovation Studio should further play a platform function, enrich contents, improve methods, initiate training projects close to the actual production, build the studio into a base for training, innovation and cultural fusion, and contribute to a strong atmosphere of "learning safety, understanding safety and be capable of safety".

He stressed that incidents were the biggest cost and safety was the greatest profit. All units of the company should assign responsibilities in a solid manner, implement relative measures, conduct in-depth identification and rectification of potential safety hazards, work hard on current production safety with a high sense of political responsibility, and ensure continuously stable production to meet the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China with a safe and stable environment.

Closing to the actual operation, this competition further consolidated safety skills of the employees and improved their emergency response ability in actual work. While improving safety skills of the employees, this competition further promoted the organic combination of safety responsibility awareness and production operation, helped employees to internalize safety responsibility in mind and externalize it in action, and effectively improved production safety of the company to a new level.

This safety skill competition was jointly organized by the Labor Union and HSE Department. As a large number of new employees joined the company in recent years, the competition required at least two members of each representative group should be new hires of the last three years. Through the competition, promote training and improve capability through training, so as to improve overall safety skills of youth employees effectively. (Zhang Lei)
