The Company Won Saudi Aramco President Excellence Award Again
At COVID-19 pandemic, Saudi Aramco held the virtual award presentation ceremony for the President’s JV Excellence Awards on April 21.
OOP attended the ceremony in Quangang Office Building through video conference.
FREP is the winners of both the 2019 Best Performance in Energy Intensity and the 2018-2019 Most Improved Energy Intensity at the same time. This is the second time that FREP has won Saudi Aramco President's JV Excellence Awards. The first time was the Award for Most Improved HSE Performance of 2017. It is a great recognition from Saudi Aramco for our energy performance and improvement in 2019.
Saudi Aramco President and CEO Mr. Amin Nasser addressed that many companies around the world are struggling to maintain their business activity levels with COVID-19 pandemic. At Saudi Aramco, it is a different story. Our business continues, our employees remain resilient, and our people are working together as one team being around the world and in our joint ventures. The key of keeping our business going is the excellence of our people. Despite COVID-19, recognize our employee and organization is important.
Mr. Amin Nasser commented that excellence isn't a measurement or a metric. It is a mindset, it is a mission and it is needed more than ever right now with COVID-19 forcing us to do things differently. This award is one of our core values, and we will continue to pursue excellence in everything we do.
Joint ventures are vital parts of our business and they support our growth through value creation, and drive innovation for our partners. Our JVs are an extension of Aramco’s mission to be the world foremost and reliable supplier of energy. This mission is accomplished through in-Kingdom JVs and also international JVs such as through our FREP JV in Fujian China, which is one of the winning teams today. It is clear a challenging time for our downstream business with current market conditions and demands for refining product falling significantly. For example,gasoline and jet fuel demands has seen sharp drops, with new car sales declining, fewer cars on the road, and only cargo planes being allowed to fly in many parts of the world.
Mr. Amin Nasser commented hoped that COVID-19 will pass sooner than later, and the joint ventures should use this time to sharpen skills, capabilities and processes, and work on emerge even stronger from this crisis. He congratulated all of this year JVs’ excellence winners, and thanked the winners for being models.
President Mr. Emmen commented at the ceremony that the company appreciated the recognition to FREP team via this reward. It is an award for team work day in day out attention for energy consumption in our operation by all our employees. But more than that, also the structural improvement focus in past years has enabled the progress.
Mr. Emmen expressed that SA has played a good role as shareholder to help us define high quality opportunity in energy roadmap. This is not only a recognition for FREP, but also build our confident that we will see more support for FREP in future.

In 2019, the company achieved significant improvement in energy efficiency. The site-wide EII is 2.6 higher than that in 2018, the comprehensive energy consumption of refining achieved the best performance since 2016, and the comprehensive energy consumption of ethylene is at the leading level in the industry in China. With the correct leadership of shareholders and the joint efforts of all employees, the company will continue to pay close attention to HSE, reliability, profitability, operating expense, people and customer/ supplier satisfaction, and strive to steadily push the realization of the company's vision and become a world-class petrochemical company with sustainable competitiveness.
It was reported that the Saudi Aramco 2020 President's JV Excellence Awards in this time includes totally 8 awards in two categorizes, recognizing the 2019 best performance and 2018-2019 most improved performance in HSE, assets availability, energy intensity and operational excellence.
