November 9th is the national Fire Fighting Publicity Day. In order to publicize fire fighting knowledge, strengthen the staff’s awareness of fire fighting, and improve their fire fighting abilities, in the morning of November 9, the Company held 2016 Fire Fighting and Gas Prevention Specialized Skills Competition in the training hall of the new fire fighting building. The Company’s vice president, Nouraddin A. Yousuf, came to watch the competition and delivered a speech. The leaders of Process Department, HSE Department, Mechanical Department, and other departments came to watch the competition. The competition was jointly organized by the Company’s Labor Union and HSE Department. Almost 100 employees in 16 teams from the grassroots units participated in the competition.

The vice president, Nouraddin A. Yousuf, expressed gratitude to participants from all the units in his speech and wished a successful competition. He said: “The petrochemical enterprises are subject to high temperature, high pressure, flammable and explosive dangers. Therefore, the fire fighting safety work is the key to promote healthy and stable development of the enterprises, as well as an important part of life and property safety guarantee. At the same time, the petrochemical enterprises should make firefighting and emergency evacuation plans and carry out regular fire drills. This is very important, because it is not only related to the enterprises’ rapid response to initial fire accidents in emergency to reduce the loss of property, but more importantly related to the safety of personnel. Today, the Fire Fighting and Gas Prevention Skills Competition held by FREP will further enhance the employees’ skills to become compulsory fire fighting pioneers who escort the Company’s safe and stable production.

The competition was conducted separately in the voluntary fire fighting and gas prevention group and the professional fire fighting and gas prevention group. The competition of the voluntary group started from November 8^th and, went through 5 rounds: theory examination, in-site air respirator wearing, firefighting with 35 kg dry powder fire extinguisher cart, 50m water jet targeting, firefighting and valve shutting, and gas prevention and rescue  operation, which integrated interest with actual production and close to on-spot emergency rescue needs of petrochemical plants. After 2 days of intense competition, top 5 individuals and top 6 teams were selected from 16 teams. At last, the electrical operation team won the first prize among all teams, followed by EO/EG, Fuels-2, instrument, olefin, and polyolefin BTs.

In order to guarantee a smooth competition, the firefighting brigade carefully organized and arranged the competition items based on actual production of the Company. They organized the staff to make the competition equipment such as dummies and indoor fire hydrant boxes and carefully arranged the venue. Production Department, Mechanical Department, Technical and Planning Department, and other departments closely cooperated with each other to organize the subordinate teams to participate in the competition. And the participating teams also attached great importance to the competition and organized the participants to receive training and practice in the firefighting brigade for several times before the competition, so that the employees could fully grasp the skills of fire fighting and gas prevention.

The Fire Fighting and Gas Prevention Skills Competition is not just an intensive skill training. What is more, the drill improved the staff’s ability to respond to emergencies rapidly. Many employees said that they did need to be more proficient in skills for using the common daily firefighting equipment at critical moments and were more aware of the hard work of firefighters daily drill from the hands-on practice, which further enhanced their sense of safe production. Through this event, the Company has set off an upsurge to dedication to work, attention to fire fighting and gas prevention, and skills training so as to engage all employees to attach importance to fire fighting and gas prevention and perform good fire prevention work to ensure the Company’s safe production.
